RE: Washington DC Campground

Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville is our top choice. We have family in Northern VA and that is where we call home when visiting. $36 per night with EWS. As far as the traffic "nightmare", I could get from Bull Run to Tysons Corner in 35 min at 8 AM. Obviously you will be dealing with high volume traffic during traditional "rush hours" on weekdays (7AM - 10AM, 4PM - 7PM). Cherry Hill is an RV Park, Bull Run is a campground. Great swimming pool complex, shotgun (trap, skeet, sporting clays) facility, playgrounds, and wildlife. I too recommend the Metro. Driving in on I66 you can get the Metro at Nutley St.

RE: Jayco 17C

As the owner of a 2008 19H, I can only offer you an opinion based upon our trailer. The sewer hose compartment looks cool, but only until you try to use it. I realized this when purchasing the unit, and carry mine in a 5 gal bucket with the lid on. I would imagine that any RV sewer hose will indeed fit in the compartment, but that would have to be without the end connectors attached to the hose. I didn't want to deal with that, and I wasn't quite sure where that slinky would be dripping, so I went with the 5 gallon bucket. Many have also added PVC tubes etc ...
Maybe this is one of those places where the engineers, and the real world had a disconnect.

Jayco Power Awning

I finally brought my trailer in to have the awning parts replaced to change it to the flat pitch awning. When I went to pick it up, I tested the awning. It rolled out nicely and I was pleased. I went to roll it in, and no go. So, I left it to be repaired.
One of the surprises to me, was that they said the arms and motor was replaced, but I thought only the arms were to be replaced.
Then they called me last Fri and told me that they were still unable to resolve the problem, and that they had replaced the motor to no avail. They stated that Carefree advised that the motor requires a constant clean 12v, and that the motor performed fine when run via direct wire from converter. Today I called to check on it, spoke with one person in warranty service and they advised that the replacement motor had not yet arrived from Carefree. I was stunned and rather speechless so I thanked the rep and hung up. I started feeling weird about that response, so I called back 30 min later and spoke to a different rep and was advised that the technicians were running new wires ... she saw the awning moving in and out better than it was, but the technicians still had the work order so it must not be finished as of yet ....
I know many of us with '08 models have had this work performed. We had a long thread last year about this and several of us were comparing stories while trying to get Jayco to address the low awning height. Anyone had goofy problems such as mine above?

RE: Riddle me this....

Ours works great too. I was very impressed in it's ability to pull in a signal. We were in the foothills of VA and picking up Greensboro, NC stations (60+ miles). Some were digital channels. We were the a valley near a lake, so there was absolutely no "line of sight". Without the booster, no tv.

RE: Need Help from Jayco Owners

On our 2008 19H the gasket on the rear bunk (at the top) appears to hang from the screw heads. It looks like it was perhaps engineered this way.

RE: 2002 Jayco Kiwi questions

I would swear that I saw one of these down the street from me and thay were asking 8900. I think it sat around for a month then finally sold. They probably got 8300 - 8500 for it. These things are all about local supply and demand.

RE: Need suggestions for Va/DC

Pohick Bay. On a good day, you can get to just about anywhere in Alexandria in 45 min or less. If you stay across the bridge (Cherry Hill), you are still about 45 min from anywhere in Alexandria ON A GOOD DAY. BUT .... on a bad day, the drive from Cherry Hill to Alexandria could be 2 hours or more.

RE: virginia campground

I cannot tell you about Deer Run. I do know that 15-20 mi east of Woolwine is Fairy Stone State Park which is very nice, E/W sites with a dump station. Also in the same general vicinity, the Army Corps of Engineers have developed 3 or more campgrounds on the Philpott Dam project. I have stayed at both the state park and a few of the COE parks, and would recommend either.

RE: Baltimore to Wilmington- 3 nights in a pop-up

If Wilmington, NC is your ultimate destination, I would drive I95S to I40E.
If you drove by way of the CBBT, you would need to turn off your propane, but no biggie, there are pullouts once clear of the bridge to turn it back on. The one way toll is $16 for a passenger vehicle and 1 axle trailer. Once south of the bay, believe it or not it is still faster to drive RT 58W to Emporia, VA and pick up I95S to I40E. I think the lost time traveling through Annapolis to Salisbury then the Eastern Shore on RT13 in conjunction with the toll, would turn me off to this route.
Having said all of this, Carolina Beach State Park is just South of Wilmington. The park has no elec or water hookups, but is centrally located between Wilmington and Carolina / Kure Beach. The only other campground that has received any decent reviews on the web is the KOA which is just NE of Wilmington. Weather could be wonderful, or chilly, it just depends on the jet stream.

RE: Fort Chiswell RV Park in Wythesville, VA

A few more miles off of the interstate just south of Wytheville you can find Rural Retreat Lake Park. It is less than 20 min from downtown Wytheville and maybe 8 miles off of the interstate. This is a municipal park, and the sites were great, bath house was decent and normally clean. The best part is the site spacing, nothing like a KOA.

RE: NASCAR TICKETS

I have always purchased from the track online. I goto nascar.com and follow the links for tickets. Also, when I go to a track for the weekend races, I will buy qualifying tickets, or the Saturday race (busch/nationwide, or trucks) at the gate. They almost never sell out, and if it is 36 degrees F and raining like Noah's ark, I am not out the cash.

Joe In Nebraska

I have been following your posts in the awning thread. You may want to check out RV Direct on the web. You can purchase online and pickup a unit in Des Moines if that is not too far from you, otherwise they will deliver it to you. I was able to use a quote from them to negotiate with our dealer, thus I did not have to drive to one of their outlets. Their online build and quote takes maybe 5 min to fill out and they will email you a firm price within minutes. I have seen good reviews about them here on RV.Net
Good Luck

RE: Good family campground in or near Wilmington NC.

There is the previously mentioned KOA and there is Carolina Beach State Park. We have family there and have scoured the area for campgrounds. There is also a KOA a little ways south of Wilmington in Shallotte. The state park is beautiful, but no hookups on their sites, AND they lock the main gate at 8:00 PM, there is no vehicle access to the park until the next morning.

When going to the races in Martinsville, VA look at Fairy Stone State Park, or Philpott COE campgrounds.

RE: Chevy 3.23 to 3.73?

I looked at a bunch of trucks before buying mine and I understand your concern. When looking for a half ton 5.3L Chevy, I learned that the vast majority of half ton Chevy and GMC trucks have either 4.8L engines or 5.3L engines with 3.23 or 3.42 rear end gears. It took months before I found 5.3L with a 3.73 gear. I actually memorized the option codes that are on the build option label located in the glovebox, because most half ton truck owners (those that were selling) did not know which rear end gear was installed in the truck. Even trying to buy a new truck with 3.73 was difficult, and would have to be located or special ordered. Keep looking and good luck. I agree with the previous poster that advised that you may want to pass this one by and keep looking.
